Protectionism is rising, but not everywhere. In Hamburg officials, scholars and entrepreneurs gathered to expand the cooperation between Europe and China.
The Hamburg Summit is a high-level, bilateral conference fostering Sino-European relations – an inspiring forum where global leaders meet to discuss topics of mutual interest. It is internationally recognised as the leading platform for business, political and academic leaders to discuss and improve the relations between China and Europe. This year the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce welcomed around 550 guests.

Among former German president Gerhard Schroeder, EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager, German Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer (CSU) and Chinese Vice-Minister President Liu He were guests of honour.
Peter Helis was invited to speak in the panel regarding “Trade relations between China, Europe and the US – how to rebalance and strengthen global trade ties”. It was moderated by Prof. Dr. Henning Vöpel, the Director and CEO of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI). Other guests of that panel were Yu Zenggang, the Executive Vice President of China COSCO Shipping Corporation Ltd., Dr. Angela Stanzel, Senior Policy Fellow and editor of China Analysis at European Council on Foreign Relations and Denis Redonnet, Director for "WTO, Legal Affairs and Trade in Goods" and Directorate General for Trade in the European Commission.

The summit was covered by several newspapers. Among others, Global Times China as well as WELT interviewed Peter Helis about current topics in China.
