Hong Kong – November 14, 2025 – Peter Helis delivered a one-hour keynote presentation on the transformative potential of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) to editors-in-chief of Germany’s leading media outlets.
The session, moderated by renowned China expert and author Frank Sieren, took place at the historic Foreign Correspondents’ Club (FCC) in Hong Kong’s Central District – a landmark venue housed in the old Dairy Farm building, known for its colonial-era architecture, panoramic Victoria Harbour views, and role as a hub for global journalism and open dialogue since 1949.
Attendees represented editors-in-chief of prominent publications including Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), Stuttgarter Zeitung, Rheinische Post, Berliner Zeitung, Die ZEIT, and Süddeutsche Zeitung.
In his presentation, Helis provided an in-depth overview of the GBA’s economic dynamism, strategic advantages, and global competitiveness. Key highlights included:
Economic Scale and Growth: The GBA’s combined GDP reached approximately USD 1.95 trillion in 2024, with sustained double-digit growth in high-tech sectors.
Innovation Ecosystem: Integration of Hong Kong’s financial hub, Shenzhen’s tech innovation, and Guangzhou’s industrial strength.
Investment Opportunities: Huangpu District’s role as a core engine, hosting over 300 Fortune 500 companies with streamlined policies for foreign investors.
Infrastructure and Connectivity: World-class transport network enabling a “one-hour living circle” across 11 cities.
Sustainability and Livability: Green development initiatives and the region’s appeal as a vibrant, international living environment.
“China’s Greater Bay Area is not just a regional initiative – it is a global growth platform,” said Helis. “For European companies, partnering here means accessing innovation at scale, resilient supply chains, and a market-driven ecosystem that rewards speed and collaboration.”
The presentation sparked engaged discussion on Germany-China media cooperation, economic partnerships, and the GBA’s role in global value chains.
The Media Forum China Germany 2025 continues to foster high-level dialogue between Chinese and German media professionals.
