Those who look out for especially dynamic and innovative regions in Germany make a find in Leipzig. In Saxony’s largest city Industry 4.0 has become reality already, as high-tech and smart manufacturing are applied in various branches. Foshan has opened its doors to Industry 4.0 as well and conclusively a business delegation from the Pearl River Delta city came together in Leipzig on September 9th to get an insight into automation, manufacturing and renewable energy.
Organized by the Foshan Commerce Authority and the Foshan High-Tech Association with support of Helis & Associates the event sought to strengthen the economic cooperation between German and Chinese companies. The 17 represented Foshan businesses coming from various industrial sectors were welcomed by the Invest Region Leipzig and introduced into the automation and manufacturing industry of the region by the Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbauer in Ostdeutschland (German Machine and Plant Manufacturer Association in East Germany). Afterwards, the delegation enjoyed a tour through the production facilities of the BMW electric vehicles i3 and i8 opened in 2013. The manufacturing site is one of the most modern factories in Europe and is supplied by renewable energy to a 100% extend. After the lunchbreak participants visited the Helmholtz Zentrum für Umweltforschung (Helmholtz Centre of Environmental Research) and the German Biomassenforschungszentrum (German Centre of Research on Biomass) and took part in various workshops covering different environmental technologies. The day was completed with a visit of the Hochschule for Technik, Wirtschaft and Kultur Leipzig (Leipzig University of Applied Science) with an insight into the university’s robotic, mechatronic and nao laboratory.
The delegation gave positive feedback on the agenda organized by Helis & Associates and after a successful and exploratory day the participants of the delegation from Foshan adjourned to the return to Berlin.
