HONG KONG — August 28, 2026 — Business leaders, economists, and strategic policy advisors convened in Hong Kong on August 27, 2026, for the FGS Global GBA Panel, an executive forum exploring the evolving economic landscape of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The panel, titled "The Greater Bay Area: Integration, Opportunities, and What Comes Next," addressed critical dynamics shaping the region’s economic trajectory. Featured speakers included Peter Helis, International Executive and Sinologist, alongside Professor Song Min, President and Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Institution for International Finance. The session was hosted and moderated by Paul Yang, Partner and Head of China Practice at FGS Global.
Key themes discussed during the session included:
Hong Kong’s Strategic Trajectory: Assessing Hong Kong’s institutional role under China's Five-Year Plans, and how international investors are balancing Hong Kong as a regional headquarters versus an operational base across the GBA.
Cross-Border Capital & Risk Management: Navigating China-outbound expansion into Southeast Asia and the Middle East while addressing geopolitical exposure, regulatory compliance, and reputational risk.
The GBA Innovation Chain: Evaluating the operational efficiency of the regional technology pipeline—linking basic research in Hong Kong, validation in Hetao, engineering in Shenzhen, and manufacturing across the Pearl River Delta—alongside emerging AI governance frameworks.
"The GBA represents one of the world's most dynamic economic engines, but translating its scale into commercial success requires navigating real operational complexity, institutional alignment, and cross-border governance," said Peter Helis following the event. "My sincere thanks to Paul Yang and the team at FGS Global for hosting such a timely dialogue, and to Professor Song Min for his compelling economic perspectives."
